Madrid ends Sunday at up to 35 degrees before it cools down

In the city of Madrid, the forecast high has stood at 33 degrees, with a low of 19. At half past eight in the evening, the thermometer is still around 32, so terraces, parks and streets retain a warm atmosphere even as the sun begins to lose strength.

Aranjuez has once again ranked among the hottest places, with a forecast high of 35 degrees and a low of 18. Alcalá de Henares has been around 34, while Getafe and other municipalities in the metropolitan area have been around 33.

The mountains have offered some more relief from the heat. Collado Villalba has remained at around 31 degrees, with lows close to 16. There, moreover, the wind strengthened during the afternoon in the higher areas, a factor to take into account for routes, excursions and other outdoor activities.

The absence of rain has made for a Sunday favourable to swimming pools, terraces and plans in parks, but the middle hours of the day have once again required seeking shade and reducing direct exposure to the sun. The dry atmosphere has made the heat somewhat more bearable than on humid days, although temperatures have remained high for spending much time in the street.

The change will arrive this Monday. In the capital, the high will fall to around 27 degrees and some showers may appear during the morning, while Aranjuez will go from this Sunday’s 35 to around 30. The drop will be enough to clearly change the feeling in the street.

The difference will also be noticeable at night. After a still-warm Sunday, lows will begin to fall and over the next few days Madrid will string together milder days, with values well removed from August’s harshest spells.

Sunday thus leaves one last full-summer afternoon before a rapid turn of the thermometer. There are still hours of heat left on terraces and in homes, but on Monday Madrid will wake up to a different atmosphere and up to six degrees less in some parts of the region.
