Alameda Castle comes back to life with free outdoor music, cinema and shows
Madrid adds a new setting for people seeking outdoor cultural plans without leaving the city. The historic Alameda de Osuna Castle, in Barajas, is being transformed from this 15 May into one of the most attractive spaces of the Madrid spring thanks to the free Las noches del castillo series, a programme that will fill the district’s nights with music, cinema and shows for almost a month.
The venue, reopened after a municipal investment of 1.6 million euros, regains prominence with a programme designed for different audiences. Tribute concerts, jazz, flamenco, family cinema and circus shows are turning this historic 15th-century space into a new cultural meeting point for residents and visitors.
The programme begins on 15 May with Recuerdos Locos, a tribute to El Canto del Loco, followed the next day by a candlelit concert by Matritum Cantat focused on film soundtracks. Over the following weeks there will be family offerings, flamenco performances, screenings such as Wonka and visual shows with LED lights and live music.
One of the cycle's great attractions will be the setting itself: the park surrounding the castle is now being adapted to host night-time events without losing the venue's historic character. Improvements to access and green areas aim to turn the space into a new cultural lung for Barajas and expand leisure options beyond central Madrid.
Castillo de la Alameda is one of the few medieval remains preserved in the capital. For decades it took a back seat in Madrid's cultural agenda, despite its historical value and strategic location next to El Capricho park. Its recovery reflects an increasingly visible trend in Madrid: activating historic neighbourhood spaces to turn them into cultural venues that are open, free and connected to the city's everyday life.
