Centro Deportivo Raúl González to renovate pools and install air conditioning
Centro Deportivo Municipal Raúl González is undergoing a major renovation that will modernise much of its facilities. The project, with an investment of three million euros, will improve the indoor pools, changing rooms, and other spaces frequently used by residents in the south of Madrid.
The works will continue until the end of 2026 and include the comprehensive refurbishment of the indoor swimming pools. The finishes of the pool basins and poolside areas will be replaced, new grilles will be installed, and the water treatment and fire-protection systems will be upgraded to bring them into line with current regulations.
One of the most eagerly anticipated changes will be the installation of air conditioning in the multi-sports court. The improvement will make it possible to play sport in more comfortable conditions during the hottest months, a recurring request from the centre’s users.
The refurbishment also includes renewing the electrical and plumbing installations, as well as replacing the old dehumidifier located in the basement. These works seek to improve the building’s efficiency and reduce future maintenance incidents.
The changing rooms and communal areas will receive new finishes, ceilings and joinery to provide more functional and comfortable spaces. In addition, a maintenance staircase will be installed to access the roof, and several concrete basement walls that have had problems for years will be repaired.
The Raúl González Municipal Sports Centre is one of the leading sports facilities in the south of the capital. Every week it welcomes families, clubs and local residents who use its facilities to swim, train or take part in organised activities.
With this intervention, the City Council seeks to extend the useful life of the complex and adapt it to users’ current needs. The modernisation will provide safer, more efficient facilities ready to meet the district’s high demand for sports in the coming years.
