More than 3,000 users affected by Dreamfit’s closure in Sant Adrià
The Dreamfit Sant Adrià gym will close before June in Sant Adrià de Besòs, leaving more than 3,000 users without one of their key spaces. The closure is due to the urban development promoted by Inditex, which will transform the area and does not envisage the centre continuing at its current location.
The closure directly affects the neighbourhood’s daily life. The gym, located in the Alcampo Sant Adrià shopping complex, offered hundreds of activities a month, as well as physiotherapy, nutrition and personal-training services. For many local residents, it was much more than a sports space.
The reaction has been swift. Users and workers have launched the #DreamfitSantAdriaconAlcampo campaign to demand a solution that allows the gym to remain within the future development. Among the proposals, they suggest integrating it into the new complex or providing an alternative space.
The impact also reaches the centre’s team, made up of more than a dozen professionals who now face an uncertain future. The possible loss of jobs and dispersal of the team are as worrying as the disappearance of a community meeting point.
The closure forms part of a large-scale operation that will transform the Tres Chimeneas area. The project envisages an Inditex corporate campus and a new shopping centre, with the arrival of thousands of workers and a complete reconfiguration of the surroundings.
Alongside the economic boost, debate is growing about the model of city. Residents and users are demanding that the transformation include spaces for everyday life, recalling that urban development also involves preserving the places that sustain the community.
