Madrid closes Sol to avoid crowds on Good Friday
Puerta del Sol station will close on Friday afternoon during Easter Week to avoid crowds in the centre. The measure will affect both entrances and the train stop.
Entry to the station will be restricted from 17:10 and, from 17:30 until the end of service, neither Metro nor Cercanías trains will stop at Sol. The decision has been taken for safety reasons in anticipation of large crowds.
To compensate for the closure, Metro de Madrid will increase services on lines 1, 2, 3 and 5, which connect with the centre and will serve as the main travel alternatives.
The impact will be significant on one of the busiest afternoons of the year, with thousands of people travelling to attend processions and cultural events.
The general recommendation is to plan journeys in advance and choose nearby stations to avoid delays and crowding.
