Partial closure of Metro Line 3 disrupts mobility in central Madrid this weekend

This weekend, people travelling through central Madrid will notice an important change in their usual journeys: Metro line 3 will suspend service between Moncloa and Sol from Friday morning through to Sunday inclusive. The measure, announced only a few hours before it took effect, responds to maintenance and renewal work on the rail infrastructure.

The closure affects one of the network’s busiest connections, right in the middle of the weekend, when the city multiplies its trips for leisure, shopping and cultural activities. The stations between Moncloa and Sol, except Ventura Rodríguez, retain interchange connections with other lines, making it possible to reorganise routes, although foreseeable delays and greater crowds on alternative platforms are expected.

To reduce the impact, a special free bus service has been introduced between Moncloa and Callao, operating on the same timetable as the Metro during the three days of suspension. In addition, EMT routes 133 and Circular offer alternative journeys for people who need to cross the centre without using the L3.

Metro de Madrid insists that this work is necessary to guarantee the long-term reliability and safety of the service. The work focuses on renewing the track superstructure at Plaza de España and in the tunnel towards Ventura Rodríguez, key points for the line’s proper operation.

Metro line 3 connects historic neighbourhoods and areas of high commercial and cultural activity. Its route, which crosses the heart of the city, makes it one of the preferred options for people seeking speed between the west and the centre.
