This year's cinema steps off the screen and finds its reflection in el Prado, where paintings enter into dialogue with the films nominated for the Goya awards
This time, cinema once again steps off the screen and seeks its reflection among the works in one of the country's leading museums.
The Prado Museum has proposed a new way of looking at films nominated for the Goya Awards: through the language of painting. On the eve of the 40th ceremony, the museum, together with the Spanish Film Academy, has launched a digital initiative in which the public chooses which works from the Prado collection best correspond to each film.
The project starts from the idea of free interpretation: art does not offer fixed answers, but is born in the viewer’s gaze. The museum proposes its associations and the public votes on social media, creating its own dialogue between cinema and painting.
The action coincides with the Goya Awards ceremony, which will take place on 28 February in Barcelona, and turns the wait for Spanish cinema’s big night into a participatory cultural experience.
