The regional debate will coincide with Formula 1's debut in Madrid
Madrid will experience one of the year's most intense weeks between 10 and 13 September. The regional state-of-the-region debate will coincide with the debut of the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix at Madring, combining politics, visitors and mobility changes that will alter the capital's usual rhythm.
The Asamblea de Madrid will hold the debate on 10 and 11 September. Isabel Díaz Ayuso will open the session with an assessment of her administration and the presentation of projects planned for the coming months, while the second day will be reserved for interventions by the parliamentary groups and the president’s replies.
It will be the fifth debate of this kind led by Ayuso since she came to the regional government. The format allows the president to speak initially without a time limit, before the opposition sets out its criticism and proposals during Friday’s session.
On that same 11 September, activity for the Gran Premio will begin at the new IFEMA Madrid circuit. Practice sessions will run on Friday and Saturday, while the first Fórmula 1 race held at Madring will take place on Sunday the 13th.
The coincidence will bring political attention to Vallecas and fans’ activity to the area around IFEMA, Valdebebas and Barajas. Hotels, the Metro, buses and road access will face a high influx during a weekend that will bring together thousands of visitors.
The impact will be felt especially in travel. Holding the race will entail checks, traffic restrictions and greater pressure on public transport, while parliamentary activity will keep the media focus on the Assembly headquarters.
The proximity of the 2027 regional elections will add political weight to the debate. Although there will still be months to go before the election, the session will serve to gauge the regional government’s priorities and the strategy of an opposition entering the new political season with its eye on the ballot box.
Madrid will thus move, in a few hours, from speeches in the chamber to the noise of single-seaters. The scene will leave two very different images of the region: an Assembly focused on assessing the legislature and a new circuit ready to introduce the capital to the international public.
