Showing your DNI on a mobile phone now has legal validity in Barcelona
Since April, proving your identity by mobile phone has been possible in Barcelona with the same validity as the physical DNI. The MiDNI app makes it possible to show the document directly from the phone for administrative procedures, entry to venues or everyday situations.
To activate it, it is necessary first to verify the DNI and its electronic certificates. This step can be carried out with a reader or at designated Policía Nacional points. Once completed, all that is needed is to install the app and validate the data to begin using the digital version.
The system works through temporary QR codes generated in real time. Each code is valid for a few seconds and is linked to the official servers, which reduces the risk of fraud. In addition, the user can decide what information to show at any given time.
The measure is part of a wider process of digitising public services. The aim is to simplify procedures and reduce dependence on physical documents in daily life.
The mobile phone thus becomes a key tool for personal identification in multiple contexts.
