The eclipse triggers a major security and mobility operation in Barcelona

Monitoring will focus especially on Montjuïc, Collserola and points with good views towards the horizon. Officers will try to prevent crowds, control irregular access and parking, and anticipate risk situations resulting from the large influx of people.

Castell de Montjuïc will be one of the sites under greatest control. It will exceptionally open between 19:00 and 21:30 to observe the phenomenon, but the 200 places available sold out weeks ago and capacity will not be increased. The organisers will also provide approved glasses for attendees.

Collserola will also have a specific operation. The Guardia Urbana will reinforce patrols at access points and stay areas to prevent vehicles from occupying unauthorised spaces and to ensure compliance with restrictions that remain in force in the natural park.

Mobility will be another sensitive point of the day. Surveillance will be reinforced at Barcelona's main entrances and exits, corridors for emergency services will be kept clear, and particular attention will be paid to possible driver distractions during the minutes of greatest darkness.

The entire operation will be coordinated from the Sala Conjunta de Mando, where Guardia Urbana, Mossos d'Esquadra, Bombers de Barcelona, SEM, traffic officials and TMB will work. The emergency number 112 will also increase its staffing by more than 15% in anticipation of calls increasing during the central hours of the phenomenon.

Barcelona will be outside the path of totality, although the Moon will cover approximately 99.7% of the solar disc. Authorities recommend arriving early at observation sites, prioritising public transport and using only approved glasses throughout the eclipse, as the Sun will never become completely obscured in the city.
