The link between L1 and L5 at Plaça de Sants closes for almost a year from 27 April

The reason is a major renovation to improve accessibility. New lifts will be installed and the entrances will be adapted for people with reduced mobility, an upgrade that has been pending at this location for years.

The works have a budget of over 15 million euros and will require the corridor to remain closed for almost a year. The reopening is scheduled for next spring, if the timeline is met.

During this period, anyone needing to change lines will have to go outside or look for alternative routes at other stations. This may lengthen journeys and change the daily routine for thousands of users.

Plaça de Sants is one of the key transport hubs in the city, especially for those travelling between the centre and the southern neighbourhoods. The project aims for a significant long-term improvement: a more accessible, modern interchange, ready for daily use, even though it will mean less convenient journeys for several months.

If you use this transfer, you’ll need to allow extra time for your journeys or change your usual route for several months. You’ll probably have to go above ground to make the change or use other nearby stations, which may affect your daily routine. In return, once the works are finished, the route will be more comfortable and accessible for everyone, especially for people with reduced mobility or those with pushchairs and suitcases.
