The Metropolitano's former aquatic centre becomes concerts, campus and sport
The former aquatic centre next to Estadio Metropolitano will cease to be a symbol of the past and become a new hub of activity in Madrid. The project will turn the space into a complex with concerts, training and sport, due to open in 2030.
The main feature will be a large indoor auditorium with capacity for more than 20,000 people. The aim is to attract major international tours and strengthen the city's music offering, adding a venue equipped for large-scale events.
The plan also includes a university campus focused on sectors such as sport, health, and the music industry. More than 2,300 students will be able to study in an environment directly connected to the area's cultural and sporting activities.
At the same time, a sports centre with indoor and outdoor swimming pools will be built, designed for thousands of users. This will expand leisure and sports options for local residents in a district that continues to grow in services.
The transformation is part of a larger project that aims to establish the area around the Metropolitano as a key point in the city. The change will affect not only the urban landscape, but also how this area is used and experienced day to day.
