The Estadi Olímpic is reinforced for an influx of concerts in 2026

Barcelona is preparing the Estadi Olímpic for a record season of concerts in 2026. The City Council will invest more than one million euros in protecting the grass and tracks. Major international and national artists already have dates reserved.

Barcelona’s 2026 music calendar promises to break records, and the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys will be at the centre of the action. To ensure the stadium can withstand intense concert activity without damaging its grass or athletics tracks, the City Council has approved a strategic investment: more than 1.2 million euros will be allocated to a high-resistance protection system that will cover the venue throughout the events season.

The plan includes the installation of 13,000 square metres of fireproof aluminium panels, capable of bearing the weight of stages and heavy machinery without compromising the sporting surface. In addition, 600 linear metres of perimeter ramps will be added to overcome level differences and facilitate access for equipment and the public.

The concert season will begin on 20 April and run until 20 October, with the protection installed permanently for 26 weeks. This measure seeks to speed up set-ups and dismantling between different promoters, optimising resources and avoiding interruptions to the programme.

The calendar already has dates marked in red: Bad Bunny will perform on two consecutive nights in May, El Último de la Fila will open the month, The Weeknd will arrive in September and Oques Grasses will give four concerts in October. The forecast is that the stadium will host a succession of mass events, consolidating its role as the city’s major stage.

The contract, managed by the municipal company BSM, could reach 5.3 million euros if extensions and modifications are included. In addition, 200,000 euros are reserved for supervision and possible adjustments during the season, ensuring the protection adapts to the needs of each event.

This intervention will make it possible to reconcile the stadium’s sporting use with the mass arrival of concerts, ensuring that the infrastructure withstands Barcelona’s frenetic cultural pace without losing its athletic essence.
