New teams and higher standards set the tone for Grec 2026
Barcelona is gearing up for a summer defined by the 50th anniversary of the Festival Grec, which arrives with a major overhaul of its organisation. The Ajuntament is aiming to raise the technical and creative bar in a landmark edition for the event's history.
Artistic direction will be led by Pau Masaló, while audiovisual production will be handled by Allegra Films. Added to these changes is a new technical management, outsourced for the first time to AP7 Projectes Tècnics, which will coordinate the festival’s complex logistics.
The operation will cover key venues such as Teatre Grec, Teatre Lliure, Mercat de les Flors, and the CCCB. Coordinating sound, lighting, and stage machinery across multiple venues will require a highly specialised team and more precise planning than in previous editions.
The budget also reflects this step up: more than 155,000 euros allocated to technical direction and nearly 200,000 euros for the communication campaign, which will launch in spring. The aim is clear: to strengthen the festival’s profile and attract both local and international audiences.
Festival Grec is Barcelona’s major performing arts event, filling the city every summer with theatre, dance, music, and circus in iconic venues.
The transformation goes beyond the technical. The new structure aims to improve the experience for both companies and audiences, with more personalised attention and greater care in staging at each venue.
During the summer, the impact of the Grec will be felt throughout the city. Stages spread across different neighbourhoods, increased cultural activity, and a packed schedule will turn Barcelona into a major artistic meeting point, consolidating the festival as one of the year’s most important cultural drivers.
