Fòrum will refurbish its bathing area with a direct ramp to the sea and more safety measures
The distinctive Fòrum bathing area, one of the most iconic legacies of the 2004 event, is preparing for a transformation that will improve its accessibility, safety and environmental sustainability.
This summer, at the end of June, work will begin which, over seven months—without interrupting the bathing season—will give new life to this stretch of Barcelona's coastline without sand.
One of the most notable changes will be the installation of a direct access ramp to the sea for people with reduced mobility, a long-awaited improvement that will avoid the current steps and complement the existing assisted bathing service.
The project, promoted by Barcelona Cicle de l’Aigua and financed with Next Generation funds, also includes: expanding shaded areas with more pergolas, improving the paving, refurbishing the breakwater and the lifeguard tower, and opening new access points to the toilets to avoid dark, poorly visible areas, which were highlighted in particular during a gender-perspective exploratory walk in 2022.
In addition, work will be carried out on the artificial island of Pangea to encourage marine biodiversity and the presence of birds, naturalising the surroundings with sand and vegetation.
With a budget of €1.45 million, the Fòrum takes a further step towards becoming a more inclusive, safe and ecological bathing space.
