Campo Real’s municipal gym is facing a major transformation in 2026. The City Council has invested more than €34,000 in purchasing machinery and sports equipment over the past two years, strengthening the offering for the centre’s regular and occasional users.
On the latest visit to the gym, Mayor Francisco Leal confirmed that expansion work will begin in the first quarter of 2026. The latest equipment batch, valued at €17,000, includes six new machines: four focused on leg training and two for cardiovascular exercise, including an elliptical trainer and a stair climber.
These additions join the three treadmills acquired in 2024 and various equipment for classes and training, as well as the hire of 15 indoor cycling bikes, one of the activities most in demand among users.
Since 2023, the gym has experienced 40% growth in monthly users, reaching 789 registered members, not counting those who attend occasionally. Despite extended opening hours from Monday to Sunday, the current space is insufficient, which has prompted the award of the expansion works contract.
The City Council is working with the contracted company to minimise the impact of the works on the gym’s daily operation, thereby guaranteeing continuity of activities for all users.
