Spanish government expands aid for young people: over-23s living with their parents could receive up to €733 a month

From 2026, Spanish young people aged over 23 will be able to apply for a monthly benefit of up to 733 euros, even if they still live with their parents. This is an extension of the guaranteed minimum-income programme, Ingreso Mínimo Vital, which the Government is adapting to the real situation of the labour and housing markets.

According to official data, most young workers in the country cannot afford to live independently because of high rental prices and low wages. The new rules will allow the benefit to be claimed individually, provided that the applicant has an independent economy and is not part of the family economic unit.

The amount of the benefit will increase by more than 11% in 2026 and will reach 733 euros per month per person. The possibility of receiving aid will remain for certain vulnerable groups of young people, including those without family support.

The benefit will be processed through the social-security system, and the key condition will be confirmation of economic independence, even when the applicant lives with their parents.
