Aid, loans and lower taxes: the Govern's plan to address the impact of the war
The international economic impact is already being felt in Barcelona and throughout Catalonia. The Govern de Catalunya has approved a €400 million plan to cushion the consequences of the war in Iran, with measures aimed at vulnerable families and businesses.
The package is divided into three major strands: 216 million for the business sector, 30 million earmarked for direct support for families, and 154 million intended to speed up the ecological transition. Among the most significant decisions is the temporary abolition of the CO₂ tax, which must be validated by the Parlament de Catalunya.
Town and city councils will have a key role in distributing the aid, especially in a context of rising prices for energy and basic products. The aim is to reach the most affected households quickly.
At the same time, the Institut Català de Finances will activate new credit lines and preferential financing for companies and self-employed people. The temporary exemption of certain administrative fees to make procedures easier in difficult times is also envisaged.
The plan also includes measures to promote electric mobility and expand charging infrastructure, reinforcing the commitment to reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
The Govern presents this package as a flexible response that may be expanded according to how the conflict evolves. The priority, they say, is to protect the everyday economy while moving at the same time towards a more sustainable model.
