The Govern demands that Albiol reopen Can Bofí Vell for people evicted from B9

The Government of the Generalitat has stepped up pressure on the mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol, to reopen the Can Bofí Vell shelter and thus offer urgent accommodation to people evicted from the former B9 secondary school. The Drets Socials i Inclusió minister, Mònica Martínez Bravo, has sent a letter to the council requesting an immediate response, backed by social organisations such as Cáritas and Cruz Roja, which have said they are willing to collaborate from this very evening.
According to the minister, Can Bofí Vell meets the conditions needed to accommodate at least fifty people who spent the night in front of the boarded-up school, thus providing emergency assistance to those affected. Martínez Bravo has recalled that the court decision requires the City Council to provide adequate resources and considers that reopening the shelter would be the best solution for everyone involved.
At a meeting held this afternoon between the City Council, the Generalitat and several social organisations, the participating entities expressed their willingness to take charge of both the immediate opening and the subsequent management of the centre.
The Parlament de Catalunya has also approved a motion presented by Comuns, requiring both the Generalitat and Badalona City Council to take urgent measures to house the former B9 occupants. The approved text calls for housing alternatives and supports social inclusion, preventing those affected from becoming homeless in the middle of winter.
During the last plenary session of the Parlament, Martínez Bravo explained that in recent weeks the department had referred 59 people from B9 to suitable resources, although she stressed that responsibility for finding a housing solution lies with the council. The minister assured that the Government has carried out all the necessary steps to address the situation, reiterating its willingness to offer technical support and resources to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
