The Generalitat to promote 566 flats in 31 municipalities
The Generalitat de Catalunya is preparing the largest public housing tender in years, with 566 flats planned on 42 plots across the region. The process will begin in April and aims to ease pressure on the housing market in Catalonia.
The plan, agreed with 31 town councils, will allow for individual tenders to be launched for each plot. This approach makes it easier to adapt projects to local realities and speed up construction in areas with the highest demand.
The agreement has been signed by president Salvador Illa and the consellera of Territori, Habitatge i Transició Ecològica, consolidating a strategy based on institutional collaboration.
The initiative includes buildings of up to 20 homes, with layouts designed to meet the specific needs of each municipality.
The goal is clear: to increase the supply of affordable housing and offer real alternatives to thousands of families who are struggling to find a home.
In a context of rising prices, this boost to public housing marks a shift in scale for Catalan housing policy and puts access to housing at the centre of the agenda.
