Formula 1 nears a sell-out at Ifema and changes Madrid’s pace

Madrid accelerates its international agenda with Formula 1 coming to Ifema Madrid. The venue is close to full, with 90,000 tickets already sold, and is preparing for an event that promises to transform the city for several days.

The impact is already being felt in the surrounding area. Construction work, workers’ traffic and changes to routine mark daily life in nearby areas such as Valdebebas. For residents and workers, the atmosphere has changed: more activity, more noise and a clear sense that a major event is approaching.

From Ifema’s management, with José Vicente de los Mozos at the helm, the aim is to position Madrid as a key destination on the global major-events circuit. The commitment includes VIP spaces and premium services intended to attract international investment and tourism.

The organisers insist that mobility will be crucial. Eighty per cent of the public is expected to arrive by public transport, especially the metro, to avoid overloading neighbouring districts. Even so, the change in everyday life is already causing concern among residents, who are closely following the project’s progress.

Work on the circuit is advancing with the aim of being ready in May, while final assembly will continue until shortly before the race. The logistical challenge is considerable, but so are expectations: to put Madrid on the F1 map and reinforce its international profile.

Formula 1 boosts Madrid’s global visibility, but it also tests the city’s ability to manage major events without affecting neighbourhood life. The balance between economic impact and coexistence will be key.
