Barcelona's Grec 2026 festival returns on 29 June to celebrate its 50th edition. This year, the live and performing arts event is committed to a programme that vindicates the critical and poetic role of theatre, with Teatre Grec de Montjuïc as its central hub.
Leticia Martín Ruiz returns as director for the second consecutive year. The festival looks to the past to understand the importance of defending cultural spaces today. The 2026 edition seeks to open itself up to international creation, give visibility to contemporary languages and support local creators, while maintaining the spirit of change and hope that saw it born in 1976.
Grec 2026 will take place from 29 June to 31 July, running for more than a month across different venues in the city. The epicentre will be Montjuïc, with stages including Teatre Grec, Teatre Lliure, Mercat de les Flors and Plaça Margarida Xirgu.
In addition, the festival will expand into other Barcelona neighbourhoods under the Grec Ciutat label, occupying halls, museums and cultural spaces throughout the city. The final list of venues for 2026 will be confirmed shortly.
