Rey Juan Carlos Hospital earns the gold seal for quality of care
Móstoles University Hospital Rey Juan Carlos has obtained the gold seal of the Joint Commission International, an accreditation that assesses quality of care and patient safety. The recognition concerns one of the reference centres for thousands of residents in the south and south-west of the Community of Madrid.

The certification was granted after an evaluation carried out during the month of June. An international team reviewed the operation of the clinical areas, support services, coordination among professionals, and the protocols applied during hospital care.
The process examined aspects such as patient identification, medication management, infection prevention, and the response to potential risks. It also analysed the continuity of care and how different teams share information throughout each treatment.
The accreditation places Rey Juan Carlos among the two medium-complexity hospitals in the Servicio Madrileño de Salud to have achieved this recognition. The seal does not change the range of services or access to the centre, but certifies that its procedures have passed an external review.
For patients, the result mainly means more controlled protocols and greater attention to points where errors may occur. The system also requires regular review of processes and the maintenance of a culture of continuous improvement within the hospital.
The evaluation involved professionals from different areas, from doctors and nursing staff to administrative, technical, and maintenance teams. Meeting the standards depends on safety measures being applied in a coordinated way throughout the building.
The hospital, which opened in Móstoles just over a decade ago, serves people from several nearby municipalities and is part of the public healthcare network in Madrid. Its daily activity includes consultations, hospitalisation, emergency care, and procedures in various specialties.
The recognition now opens a monitoring phase, as the accreditation will need to be maintained with new reviews and checks. This provides an additional guarantee for those who use the centre, but also a permanent requirement for protocols to work every day, not just during inspections.
