New Home to occupy 2,000 m² in the historic Miró premises in Sant Antoni
New Home is preparing to open its fourth shop in Barcelona in one of the most recognisable commercial spaces on the ronda de Sant Antoni. The furniture and home goods chain will take over number 66, a space of more than 2,000 square metres that for years was home to one of the flagship stores of Electrodomésticos Miró.
The opening still has no specific announced date. The company has confirmed that the establishment will begin operating in the coming weeks and will be considerably larger than its other three points of sale in Barcelona, located at Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 433 and 499, and Comte d'Urgell, 20.
Its size will make it possible to expand the furniture section in particular. Among the differences from the current shops will be an exclusive selection of furniture for gardens and terraces, as well as a broader catalogue for the home interior. The company also offers home delivery, furniture assembly and online sales.
The change will restore a building with a history linked to Barcelona commerce to commercial use. Before becoming a large household-appliance shop, the building housed the Pius Rubert Laporta umbrella factory and shop for decades. It later passed into the hands of Miró, which made the premises one of its most visible spaces in the city before the business disappeared.
New Home was founded in Barcelona 13 years ago and until now had concentrated its city shops around the Eixample. Its arrival on Ronda de Sant Antoni represents a leap in scale in terms of area and location, on the axis connecting Sant Antoni with the area around Universitat and the Raval.
The company also says that this opening will not end its expansion in Barcelona. Its plans involve adding new establishments in other neighbourhoods during 2027, although it has not yet specified locations or dates.
The main unknown remains when number 66 will finally raise its shutters. Refurbishment work is already under way and New Home places the opening in the coming weeks, but it has not yet announced the exact day or the opening hours of the new establishment.
