Passeig de Gràcia interchange gains full accessibility with new lifts

The Passeig de Gràcia interchange is now fully accessible. Four lifts have been installed and the L4 concourse has been refurbished. The investment exceeds 5 million euros. Discover how these improvements are transforming mobility in Barcelona.

The Passeig de Gràcia metro interchange has taken a major step forward in accessibility following the completion of works promoted by the Departament de Territori, Habitatge i Transició Ecològica. With an investment of 5.3 million euros, Barcelona’s emblematic transport hub now has four lifts and a completely refurbished L4 concourse, making travel easier for people with reduced mobility.

The improvements, which have received European funding through the MRR funds, make it possible to connect the L2, L3, L4 and Rodalies lines more conveniently and without barriers. Since January 2024, the works have progressed in phases: first, one of the lifts was brought into service and, recently, the refurbished concourse and the remaining three lifts have opened.

The main objective has been to ensure that any user can make every possible transfer within the interchange without having to go out onto the street. This action adds to other similar interventions on the Barcelona metro network, such as those carried out at Plaça Catalunya and Sants Estació, where new lifts have also been installed to improve connections between lines.

The Departament continues to work to make the metro network fully accessible to people with reduced mobility. Recently, the adaptation of Ciutadella – Vila Olímpica station (L4) was completed, with an investment of 5.8 million euros. At present, 156 stations in the Barcelona area are already accessible, representing 96.3% of the network, and 100% is expected to be reached with a total investment of 109 million euros.
