The Jarama continues to rise due to rainfall and remains at red hydrological danger level

The Jarama remains at the red hydrological danger level. Due to prolonged rainfall, the flow continues to increase and the river has already exceeded safety levels at several points. The Mejorada-San Fernando stretches and the Titulcia bridge, in the municipality of Ciempozuelos, are under special monitoring.

Specialists from the Confederación Hidrográfica del Tajo are closely monitoring the situation 24 hours a day: flow values remain above normal and the risk of overflowing remains high. This poses a greater threat to riverside areas, roads and low-lying areas.

Residents are advised to stay away from the river and closely follow the instructions of the emergency services. Preventive measures have already been adopted in San Fernando de Henares: temporary protective structures are being installed alongside the riverbed to protect municipal infrastructure.

The rise in the Jarama’s level is linked to the passage of a storm system that has brought abundant rainfall to the centre of the country and considerably increased the flow of rivers in the Tagus basin. Monitoring continues and the danger level will be adjusted according to meteorological developments.
