The Lázaro Galdiano Museum exhibits sculptures free of charge in its garden

The exhibition, entitled “Antón Casamor: light and sculpture”, can be visited free of charge until 23 August. The proposal allows visitors to explore the garden at an unhurried pace and discover how the works change according to the light, the distance and the place from which they are viewed.

The sculptures are made from materials such as patinated plaster, terracotta, stone, bronze and marble. This variety helps us understand the artist’s evolution and makes the walk more than a quick visit: each piece has a different presence within the garden.

Casamor worked in a sculptural style of sober, serene forms that paid close attention to the human body. His work is linked to noucentisme and finds one of its main themes in the female figure, with pieces that seek balance, clarity and a restrained beauty, far from excessive gesture.

Among the most striking works is “Tamariu. El paso”, carved in Yugoslav marble, a piece notable for its whiteness and the softness of its volumes. “La chica del olivo” can also be seen, engaging in a special dialogue with the garden’s plant-filled setting.

The exhibition also includes bronze pieces such as “Chica en la ventana” and “Plenitud”, which reveal a more refined and objective perspective on the artist’s work. They are works that invite visitors to stop, walk around them and observe how they fit into a space designed for slow walking.

Opening hours make it easy to visit in the morning or make the most of weekday afternoons. The garden is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:30 to 15:00, and from Tuesday to Friday also in the afternoon, from 16:30 to 19:30.

In a city where many summer plans depend on the heat, shade or budget, this proposal has a clear advantage: it combines art, free admission and a green setting in a very central area. It can work as a short visit, a cultural stroll or a cool break in the middle of the day.

The Jardín de Parque Florido is one of those spaces that go unnoticed even by many people from Madrid. Located beside the Museo Lázaro Galdiano, it retains an intimate, elegant air that contrasts with the pace of the nearby streets in the Salamanca district.

Casamor’s exhibition makes it possible to see the garden differently. Not merely as a beautiful space beside a museum, but as a small stage where sculpture comes outdoors and blends with trees, light and silence.
