Rosalía revives Casa Patas in Madrid and moves audiences by recalling her beginnings
The first of her four Madrid concerts as part of Rosalía’s Lux tour not only filled the Movistar Arena. It also brought attention to a disappeared cultural symbol: Casa Patas, the historic Lavapiés tablao that shaped a whole generation of artists.
During the Lux concert, the artist recalled her first performances at the venue and how she connected with flamenco there in a decisive way. Her account stirred the memory of many attendees, who identify Casa Patas as one of the key spaces for arte jondo in the city.
The tablao, located on calle de los Cañizares, was for decades much more than a stage. It combined a restaurant, concert hall and a foundation dedicated to preserving flamenco. Its closure in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, left an obvious gap in Madrid’s cultural offering.
Before her international breakthrough, Rosalía performed in that space in 2016 alongside guitarist Alfredo Lagos. Those performances, linked to her Los Ángeles period, already reflected a deep connection with the tradition that would later define her career.
Today, the memory of Casa Patas returns to the stage as a symbol of an era and of a way of experiencing flamenco in Madrid. The city, in constant transformation, continues to seek new spaces where that closeness between artists and audiences can once again be felt with the same intensity.
