MACBA opens its reserves to the public for free on limited dates, with very few places
Barcelona is launching an unusual cultural plan: MACBA will allow free access to its reserves, spaces normally closed to the public where works that are almost never exhibited are kept. The experience will be limited and available only with prior booking.
The visits will be organised on five specific dates between July and December. Admission is free, but places are very limited and usually sell out within a few hours, making it necessary to plan ahead.
During the guided tour, attendees will be able to see works by artists such as Joan Fontcuberta and Dora García, as well as learn how works in different formats, from painting to digital art, are stored and conserved.
The itinerary makes it possible to understand how the museum works internally. The works are organised according to their type and require specific conservation conditions, something that is not normally shown in exhibitions open to the public.
The initiative coincides with MACBA’s anniversary and is complemented by new content about contemporary art on television and digital platforms, widening access to this kind of knowledge.
