CNN has crowned the Iberian ham sandwich the best sandwich on the planet, and with good reason.
In a global ranking covering 25 of the world’s most emblematic sandwiches, this Spanish classic has taken first place thanks to its simplicity, elegance and incomparable flavour.
The sandwich, made with thin slices of Iberian ham — from acorn-fed pigs —, is served on crisp bread spread with extra virgin olive oil. It may include tomato or cheese, but the ham is, without question, the absolute protagonist.
This tribute to bread with something inside celebrates cooking without artifice, where an exceptional product shines without needing anything else. For CNN, trying it is almost a way of travelling to Spain without leaving where you are.
