Brandy Be Market arrives in Chamberí as a new monthly Sunday plan
Chamberí gains a new Sunday plan this summer. Brandy Be Market, known for its events in Majadahonda and Pozuelo, arrives in central Madrid for the first time with an edition on Bravo Murillo Street that aims to become a monthly option for residents, families and visitors.
The first event will take place on Sunday 5 July, from 10:30 to 15:30. The organisers' idea is to repeat the market on the first Sunday of every month, except August, establishing a new routine of shopping, strolling and leisure on one of the neighbourhood's busiest thoroughfares.
The market will bring together stalls selling fashion, accessories, home decor and gifts, with a mixture of emerging brands, independent designer labels and regular sellers from the editions held in north-west Madrid. The concept seeks to move away from a purely functional street market and towards an experience centred on strolling, discovery and local trade.
The event is also designed for families. Alongside the stalls, there will be children's activities, shows, face painting and live music, elements that make the market more than just a place to shop. Sunday morning is conceived as a complete outing, encouraging people to spend some time out on the street.
There will be no food stalls at this first edition. The organisers prefer to start with an offering focused on fashion, home decor and activities, although they have not ruled out expanding the food side if the market becomes established and the neighbourhood responds well.
The arrival of Brandy Be Market adds something new to the calendar in Chamberí, a district that already combines traditional shops, cafés, restaurants, lively squares and a strong community presence. The market fits into that mixture of a classic neighbourhood and new urban leisure offerings.
Madrid has well-established street markets, from El Rastro to craft fairs and producers' markets. The difference here lies in the format: a smaller, monthly morning event, designed for families and with a selection of stalls intended to attract both local residents and those who want to discover things to do beyond the usual circuits.
Bravo Murillo will be the setting for this first arrival in the centre. The street, well connected by public transport and busy throughout the week, will now try a different use on Sundays: less rushing, more strolling and a more welcoming use of urban space.
For Chamberí, the initiative could strengthen retail activity without relying solely on hospitality. If it works, the market will raise the profile of small brands and bring a flow of visitors during a time slot when many shops seek to keep the neighbourhood lively.
The challenge will be to strike a balance between appeal and harmonious coexistence. As with any street event, the key will be for the market to add atmosphere without overcrowding pavements or access points, or disturbing residents' rest.
Brandy Be Market arrives with a simple formula: carefully presented stalls, activities for children, music and a morning of shopping without leaving the centre. In the midst of Madrid's summer, when many people are looking for things to do before the heat intensifies, Chamberí gains an event that could become a regular habit.
