An Eixample flat becomes an antiques market for three days
A classic Eixample Esquerre flat will change purpose for three days. From 4 to 6 September, the home at 38 Vilamarí Street will become a pop-up market where practically everything in sight will be for sale: furniture, lamps, tableware, glassware and decorative objects with decades of history.
The proposal comes from Pompina Home Reborn, a company that organises home markets directly in homes that need to be emptied. Instead of moving the pieces to a warehouse or a conventional flea market, each room is transformed for one weekend into a small display window.
This edition also has a profile especially geared towards collectors and enthusiasts of classic decoration. The catalogue includes Louis XIV and Louis XV-style pieces, Bohemian and Murano glass, Quart de Poblet figures, antique tableware in good condition and objects linked to the Brotherhood of the Cross of Malta.
On Friday the 4th, the visit will have to be planned in advance. Access will work only by prior reservation, available from 1 September and limited to a maximum of three people per registration. On Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th, however, any visitor may enter without a reservation.
Opening hours will be from 10 to 14.30 and from 16 to 20 on both Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the last opportunity to rummage among the pieces will be from 10 to 15. Prices will be visible and payment may be made by card or in cash.
Anyone who buys a small object can take it away directly. In the case of furniture or pieces that are difficult to transport, it is possible to arrange later collection, something especially practical at a market set up in a home rather than commercial premises.
The format also follows a logic of reuse. Pompina was born precisely to find outlets for furniture and objects that remain in a home after a move or a change of owner. Pieces that do not find a buyer may end up being donated or recycled, instead of becoming waste directly.
The Vilamarí event will not be the last of the autumn. Pompina is preparing another market near Arc de Triomf from 18 to 20 September, one in El Prat from 25 to 27 and a new edition in the Plaça Molina area from 2 to 4 October. For those who enjoy entering other people's homes to look for objects with a history, September thus offers several opportunities to do so with permission and with everything, literally, for sale.
