Mercat de l’Abaceria transforms its façade in tribute to Amaia Arrazola

Mercat de l’Abaceria reopens with murals that keep Amaia Arrazola's art alive. The Gràcia neighbourhood will see its essence reflected in these unique spaces. The artist's memory will remain present in the market's everyday life.

The return of Mercado de la Abaceria in the Gràcia neighbourhood will include a notable new feature: part of Amaia Arrazola’s murals will be integrated into the new building, keeping her artistic mark in the market’s everyday life.

Ayuntamiento de Barcelona and the artist’s family have decided to preserve fragments of the illustrations created in 2024 during the works. They will be displayed in two spaces: a glass display visible from the square and Balcó de l’Amaia, on the second floor, with reproductions of the original mural.

The works reflect Gràcia’s identity and the passing of the seasons — from Sant Jordi to the castanyada — connecting tradition, daily life and local culture within the renewed market.

This artistic integration makes the reopening more than an urban improvement: it reinforces the neighbourhood’s identity, preserves its recent memory and offers residents and visitors a space where commerce and culture coexist in a unique way.
