Mercado Productores brings organic food, music, and tapas to Madrid's neighbourhoods before summer
Sundays in Madrid are increasingly taking on the flavour of local markets. Mercado Productores has become one of the city's most recognisable weekend activities, combining organic products, live music, and outdoor tapas in different parts of the city.
The event is spread across places such as Avenida del Planetario, Valdebebas and Paseo de Valdelasfuentes in Alcobendas, where small producers bring fruit, vegetables, cheeses and cured meats directly from the countryside. Direct contact with farmers and livestock breeders reinforces more conscious consumption and gives value to local produce.
As the morning progresses, the atmosphere changes. What begins as a weekly shop becomes a social plan: tables full, vermouth in hand and live music accompanying the aperitif. Impromptu tapas and a family atmosphere extend the day beyond shopping.
Each location brings its own rhythm. Under the canopies at Planetario, in Plaza Francisco de Asís Cabrero de Valdebebas or in Alcobendas, the market adapts to each neighbourhood and creates small local celebrations that attract residents and visitors alike.
The spring edition is now entering its final stretch before the summer break. The next dates include 3 and 17 May at Planetario, 10 May in Alcobendas and 24 May in Valdebebas, with the usual opening hours of 10:00 to 15:00.
Mercado Productores reflects a change in the way the city is experienced. In Madrid, shopping ceases to be a routine and becomes an experience: gastronomy, leisure and neighbourhood gatherings mingle in the same space, setting the pace of urban Sundays.
