Mercat de l’Abaceria will unveil a colourful ceramic roof with its own identity in 2026
The historic Mercat de l’Abaceria is entering the final stretch towards its planned reopening in 2026, and will do so with a polychrome ceramic roof that, although it recalls that of Mercat de Santa Caterina, will have its own identity.
Work is progressing well in the heart of Gràcia. The metal structure and basements are already finished, and now work is underway on the façades, glass, wooden latticework, and interior details. But what stands out most is the new roof, made up of red, orange, blue, and yellow panels that will fill the market with light. In addition, the design will incorporate photovoltaic panels, combining aesthetics and sustainability.
Inside, elements to house shutters, signs, and commercial equipment are already being installed, while outside, work is advancing on the premises on Torrijos y Puigmartí and on the paving.
The main works are expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with a total investment of 38 million euros. Until then, the market will continue operating at its temporary location on Passeig de Sant Joan.
