Barcelona Metro will not sleep on New Year’s Eve: 43 consecutive hours of service

Barcelona is preparing for an unprecedented New Year's Eve: the metro will provide 43 hours of uninterrupted service to facilitate travel during the celebrations welcoming 2026. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has announced that all eight lines and 165 stations will be operating from 5:00 on Wednesday 31 December until midnight on Thursday 1 January.

To respond to the expected increase in passengers, TMB has designed a special boost to service frequencies. Between 21:00 and 2:00, trains will run at intervals of less than 4 minutes on lines L1 and L3, less than 6 minutes on L5, around 6.5 minutes on L2 and less than 7 minutes on L4. From 2:00 to 5:00, frequencies will be under 10 minutes on L1, L4 and L5, and around 11 minutes on L2 and L3.

The metro will be the best option for reaching the major New Year's Eve event on Avenida Reina Maria Cristina, next to Plaça d'Espanya. The most recommended stations are Espanya (L1 and L3), Hostafrancs (L1), Rocafort (L1), Tarragona (L3) and Poble Sec (L3). All of them will have additional staff, security and cleaning before and after the event. TMB advises following staff instructions and signage at all times.

The special operation will also affect several bus lines. From 19:00 on Wednesday, lines 13, 23, 150, X3 and the red route of the Barcelona Bus Turístic will be diverted. From 20:00, lines D20, H12, H16, 46, 65, 91, 109 and X2 will join the disruptions due to preparations and traffic restrictions at Plaça d'Espanya.
