More Metro trains during Holy Week and afternoon closure of Sol
Madrid is adapting its transport network for Holy Week, with extra services on Madrid Metro lines 1, 2, 3 and 5. More trains and shorter waiting times will shape journeys in the city centre on the busiest days.
The additional service will be activated every afternoon from 17:00 and will remain in place until the end of service. Line 2 will see the most reinforcement, with a significant increase in frequency to accommodate the rise in passengers in key areas.
On Viernes Santo, Sol station will be closed to the public from 17:30 for security reasons. Although trains will continue to stop to allow transfers, entry and exit to the street will not be permitted.
These measures aim to prevent overcrowding at a time when the centre fills with processions and visitors, and getting around becomes more complicated.
Metro has been adjusting its operations for years on special dates, establishing itself as a key part of keeping the city moving.
During these days when Madrid changes its pace, public transport once again becomes the main ally for getting around the urban heart more smoothly.
