Barcelona metro and bus set all-time record with 66.9 million journeys in October

Barcelona shatters its public-transport validation record. October 2025 marks a milestone with figures never seen before. Metro and bus surpass all previous records. Discover the key days and the impact on the city.

Barcelona has reached a new all-time high in public-transport use. In October 2025, the metro and buses managed by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) recorded 66.9 million validations, surpassing every previous figure. The metro led growth with 45.8 million journeys, 3.2% more than in October 2024, while buses reached 21.2 million, 2.7% more year on year.

The operator highlights that several weekends of record demand occurred during 2025. On Saturday 22 November, 1,757,486 validations were recorded across the entire network, surpassing the previous maximum of 3 October, when 1,751,114 were reached.

The metro achieved its best Saturday figure on 22 November, with 1.35 million validations, 2.2% more than the previous record of 4 October. Buses, for their part, recorded their best Saturday on 31 May, with 454,008 validations, just above the figure of 5 October 2024.

On working days, the metro also broke records. On 23 April, coinciding with Sant Jordi, 1.88 million validations were reached, 3.9% more than the previous maximum, also recorded on a Sant Jordi, but in 2024. Buses had their best day on 22 October, with 838,715 validations, exceeding the figure of 9 October 2024.

In the balance for the first half of 2025, TMB counted 356,353,552 validations, 1.2% more than in the same period of the previous year. The public company expects the network could exceed 700 million validations for the full year, a symbolic figure in the centenary of the Barcelona metro.
