Madrid’s Museum of Romanticism closes suddenly due to building problems
One of Madrid’s most intimate museums has unexpectedly closed, interrupting the usual rhythm of Calle San Mateo and leaving its rooms without visitors.
The Museo del Romanticismo, located in the centre of the capital, has suspended its activities after deficiencies were found in the condition of the building. The closure is a preventive measure intended to allow for a full technical inspection and to ensure public safety.
The building on San Mateo street is temporarily fenced off and the entrance will remain closed until the necessary work is completed. The institution has not specified what problems have been identified, but has emphasised that this is a temporary closure and that the museum hopes to reopen as soon as possible.
Housed in a late XVIII-century mansion, the Museo del Romanticismo has for years been one of the city’s most charming cultural spaces. Its rooms preserve interiors and objects from the XIX century, and it also hosts temporary exhibitions, the future of which now depends on the progress of the works.
