The new Parla Norte interchange will transform mobility in southern Madrid
Southern Madrid is preparing for a change in daily mobility. The Parla Norte interchange will be ready at the end of the year and is set to become a key part of the network for thousands of travellers.
Works are progressing as planned and are already entering their final phase. The main structure, catenaries and underpasses are complete, while work now focuses on signalling and the urban development of the surroundings.
The new interchange will integrate Cercanías, tram and buses at a single point, with a direct connection to the M-408. It is estimated that more than 14,000 people will use it every day, reducing travel times and simplifying journeys.
The design prioritises functionality and sustainability. A rib-shaped canopy will protect users, while photovoltaic panels and natural light will improve the comfort of the space.
The station will have two platforms accessible by lifts and escalators, as well as a central concourse with passenger services and a commercial area. Parking spaces, electric charging points and specific areas for taxis and short-stay stops will also be provided.
The project forms part of the Cercanías Madrid modernisation plan promoted by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, which seeks to improve metropolitan transport efficiency.
Beyond infrastructure, Parla Norte redefines the entrance to the city. For many residents, it will mean less time travelling and easier connections with the rest of Madrid. The impact will be felt in daily routine from the first day.
