Barcelona's new literary map reveals hidden corners from novels and comics

Exploring Barcelona in the footsteps of literary characters is now possible thanks to the latest edition of the literary map promoted by Barcelona Ciudad de la Literatura UNESCO. This free tool turns the city into a living setting, allowing residents and visitors to discover the places that inspired authors and brought unforgettable stories to life.

The map, which can be downloaded online or collected in paper form from the city's 40 public libraries, invites visitors to explore everything from legendary bars such as Bar Delícias, where Pijoaparte and Teresa from Últimas tardes con Teresa crossed paths, to the exact spot where Don Quixote confronted the Knight of the Blanca Luna. Each stop connects literature with the real pulse of Barcelona.

In this third edition, coordinated by Marina Espasa y Joan Safont, comic-book authors have been added and the presence of children's and young adult literature has been expanded, placing them on an equal footing with the other genres. Addresses have also been updated and freely accessible spaces prioritised, making it easier for anyone to join the route without restrictions.

The literary route is organised chronologically according to the publication date of the books, bringing together emblematic titles that have placed Barcelona at the centre of narrative. The Ciutat Vella area takes on particular prominence, with an expanded version on the reverse of the map inviting visitors to lose themselves in the old Raval neighbourhood and discover its mark on literature.

Barcelona Ciudad de la Literatura UNESCO is an initiative that strengthens the link between the city and literary creation. Since its international recognition, it has promoted projects that bring literature closer to everyday life, encouraging routes, activities and publications that celebrate Barcelona's cultural richness. The literary map is just one of many proposals inviting people to see the city with different eyes and rediscover its streets through books.
