Mercat de Montserrat boosts Nou Barris with more sales and younger customers
Mercat de Montserrat has once again filled the Nou Barris district with activity. After reopening at a new location, the market has regained residents who had stopped shopping there and attracted a younger public drawn by the new offering and extended opening hours.

The new space, covering around 10,000 square metres, brings together food stalls, a supermarket, and additional services such as parking. The change is not just physical: the atmosphere is livelier, and queues at many stalls reflect the increase in activity since the early days.
One of the major changes is in the range of products. Many traders have added prepared food and ready-to-eat options, adapting to a faster pace of life with less time for cooking. Products like croquettes, empanadas, or dishes designed for air fryers have become common and are especially popular with new types of customers.
The opening hours have also played a role in bringing people back. Opening two afternoons a week makes it easier to shop outside working hours and has helped recover some of the footfall the market had lost in recent years.
Sellers agree that sales have improved, although adapting to the new format has required investment and changes in the way they work. Even so, the initial results are positive and the flow of visitors remains steady.
The market is once again functioning as a daily shopping spot and meeting place, with an offering more in tune with current habits. This new phase consolidates the role of Mercat de Montserrat as the commercial hub of the district.
