Montjuïc's new Punt Verd opens in La Marina with more space and services
La Marina has a new facility designed to solve a very everyday question: what to do with everything that does not fit in street containers. The new Montjuïc Zone Punt Verd is now operating at 88 Carrer de Motors, after leaving its previous location on Carrer del Foc.
The move is more than just a change of address. The new space has greater capacity and is equipped to receive bulky waste, special materials, and items that require separate handling, from small appliances to furniture, clothing, used oil, electronic devices, or leftovers that shouldn’t end up mixed with regular rubbish.
The facility is designed especially for the commercial and service sectors, but it also continues to offer free service to individuals. For many residents, this means having a closer place to take large items or difficult materials without relying on makeshift solutions or leaving them next to the bins.
One of the new features is its educational aspect. The new Punt Verd includes a versatile outdoor area with street access and an indoor space for workshops, talks, and environmental awareness activities. The idea is for it to serve not only as a drop-off point for waste, but also as a place to learn how to recycle better, reuse more, and consume with less waste.
The project is part of the reorganisation of the Zona Franca area and aligns with the goals of the Pla Clima and Pla Residu Zero. In practice, it’s about strengthening a network that Barcelona already uses every day to prevent reusable materials from ending up in the wrong place.
The city currently has 134 green points, including neighbourhood facilities, mobile points, area points, and educational resources. The area points, like the one in Montjuïc, have the largest capacity and are best suited for bulky waste or materials that require specific treatment.
The new Punt Verd arrives at a time of change for la Marina del Prat Vermell, a neighbourhood growing with new housing, facilities, and services. In an area that is moving away from its more industrial image to become a new residential front for Barcelona, having environmental infrastructure is no small detail.
Better recycling doesn’t always depend on big campaigns. Sometimes it starts with something as simple as having an accessible place to take a broken chair, an old coffee maker, or used cooking oil. The new Punt Verd de Montjuïc aims to cover just that less visible part of urban life: the waste that doesn’t appear in photos, but which also says a lot about how a city works.
