Pantalla BDC fills Barcelona with free open-air cinema this summer

The series retains a simple, highly effective formula for summer: quality cinema, public spaces and free access without prior booking. For many residents, it is a way to enjoy a cultural night without leaving the neighbourhood or paying admission.

The programme combines comedy and drama with stories about family, identity, grief, precariousness, life changes and unexpected connections. Selected titles include L’àvia i el foraster, La furgo, Los Tortuga, Molt lluny, Norberta, Un lugar común, Un sol radiant, Una quinta portuguesa and Wolfgang.

This year’s edition also strengthens accessibility. All films will be screened with subtitles and, in most cases, will be available with audio description through the AudescMobile application, an important detail for opening the series to more audiences.

Pantalla BDC is committed to recent local cinema, with films that have passed through festivals such as Málaga, Toronto and Alacant. The screen will feature performers such as Mario Casas, Eva Llorach, Luis Bermejo and Pol López, alongside stories that connect with very recognisable everyday situations.

Last year, more than 6,000 people attended screenings in places such as Sant Felip Neri Square, Plaça del Rei and the Vil·la Florida gardens. This summer, the series will once again spread across the city with the participation of 12 civic centres.

There will be screenings in districts such as Ciutat Vella, Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc, Les Corts, Gràcia, Horta-Guinardó, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu and Sant Martí. That distribution makes the series more than a programme of films: it is a way of bringing culture to spaces where cinema also serves as a neighbourhood meeting point.

As a complement, DJ Dani Kongo has prepared playlists inspired by each film, available on Spotify during the series. For Barcelona, Pantalla BDC once again shows that a summer plan does not need grand stages: a screen, a square and a good shared story at nightfall are enough.
