Barcelona’s Parc del Fòrum was transformed this Sunday into the epicentre of sporting Christmas celebrations with the Cursa de Papá Noel. A total of 3,300 participants of all ages made their way around the park dressed in red and white, in an event marked by a family atmosphere, music and good humour.
From early in the morning, entire families, groups of friends and regular runners gathered to enjoy a different kind of morning. The event, with its start and finish at the same point, offered a route entirely within the park, where Santa hats and white beards took centre stage. The sun accompanied attendees, who enjoyed a day full of laughter and Christmas spirit.
The race stood out for its popular and festive character. Times and records did not matter; what mattered was the pleasure of sharing the experience. Among the regular runners, Juan, 60, completed the five kilometres in 20 minutes and stressed the importance of keeping the Christmas tradition alive as a family. Jaime, 50, arrived shortly afterwards and valued the family atmosphere and the fun of running in costume, although he acknowledged that the outfit can be uncomfortable.
The event also brought together several generations. Consuelo, 60, took part with her daughter Andrea and her granddaughter Aitana, highlighting the value of ending the year by doing sport together. For them, the Cursa de Papá Noel is a tradition that strengthens family ties and encourages healthy habits, despite the discomforts of the costume.
Among the most moving stories, Dolors, 71, had her first experience of the race accompanied by her whole family. Although she had to walk because of knee discomfort, she completed the route with a smile and the intention of doing it again next year.
The day concluded with a visit from the original Papá Noel, who received letters from the youngest children and enlivened the dance area, putting the finishing touch to a day full of sport, excitement and Christmas magic in Barcelona.
