37 specialist bookshops turn Paseo de Recoletos into a paradise for bibliophiles

The fair brings together 37 specialist bookshops offering everything from signed first editions to hard-to-find manuscripts, maps, engravings or comics. There is also space for remaindered books, making the event an accessible plan for both collectors and the curious.

Organised by the Association of Second-hand Booksellers of Madrid, the fair has become the most important of its kind in Spain. Each edition attracts thousands of visitors who walk along Recoletos in search of unique pieces or simply for the pleasure of leafing through books with a history.

The official opening will feature writer Julia Navarro, author of titles such as Dime quién soy and La Biblia de barro. This year’s poster, designed by Juan Berrio, pays tribute to the 150th anniversary of Editorial Callejas and to passing reading on between generations.

Among the proposals is a facsimile edition of Saturnino Calleja’s 1911 publishing catalogue, allowing the rediscovery of the editorial diversity of the early twentieth century. It is joined by activities such as illustrators’ signings and historical walks through the area.

The route extends between Cibeles and Calle Almirante, with uninterrupted opening hours from 11:00 to 21:00. A plan that combines culture, a walk and discovery on one of the city’s busiest corridors.

Paseo de Recoletos thus reinforces its role as an open-air cultural space. Every spring, the fair turns this central stretch into a meeting point where the city connects with its literary memory and new ways of enjoying it.
