Spring arrives with high pollen levels in several areas of Madrid
Madrid enters spring with a significant increase in plane tree pollen, especially in areas such as Getafe, Alcalá de Henares, and central neighbourhoods like Arganzuela or Salamanca. The forecast predicts high concentrations over the weekend, directly affecting those who suffer from allergies.
According to the regional Red Palinológica, this urban tree is in full pollination. Its massive presence in streets and parks causes intense peaks within just a few days, especially in densely populated areas.
Other areas such as Alcobendas, Aranjuez and Ciudad Universitaria will record medium levels, while in municipalities such as Collado Villalba, Coslada and Las Rozas the incidence will be lower. The contrast reflects how the phenomenon is concentrated mainly in the south and in urban settings.
The increase in pollen coincides with the start of spring and forces many people to adapt their daily routines. Walks, outdoor sport or regular journeys may be affected by symptoms, especially during the hours of greatest concentration.
In streets, parks and avenues, the change is already noticeable. The presence of Platanus × hispanica, common for its shade, now becomes a factor that alters everyday experience, as a city adjusts its pace in the face of one of the year's most intense episodes for those living with allergies.
