El Prado opens free this Saturday night until 23:30
Museo del Prado will once again open free of charge at night this Saturday, 5 September. The new edition of El Prado de noche will allow access to the museum between 20:30 and 23:30, outside its usual hours, with free admission until capacity is reached.
Entry will be exclusively through the Puerta de Jerónimos and the last admission will be at 23:00. As this is an opening with limited capacity, being able to enter will depend on the capacity available during the night.
This edition will allow visitors to tour the rooms of the Edificio Jerónimos and coincides with two temporary exhibitions that can still be visited in September. One of them is In the Italian Manner. Spain and the Mediterranean Gothic (1320–1420), open until 20 September.
The exhibition brings together works from Spanish and foreign institutions to explain how artistic innovations arriving from Trecento Italy influenced the peninsular kingdoms long before the consolidation of the Renaissance.
Prado. 21st Century will also be available, remaining open until 27 September. The exhibition reviews the transformation undergone by the museum since the year 2000 through new additions to its collection, documentation and other materials related to how the institution operates.
The opening is part of El Prado at Night, the programme that allows visitors to see different spaces in the museum free of charge on the first Saturday of each month. The September event returns to its usual hours of 20:30 to 23:30 after the July edition was exceptionally moved to the second Saturday of the month.
For anyone wishing specifically to take advantage of this opening, there are three key details: Saturday 5 September, entry through Jerónimos and last admission at 23:00. Entry is free, but admissions will stop once the available capacity is filled.
