El Prat opens a 61-space Bicibox to connect bikes with public transport
El Prat de Llobregat has opened a new high-capacity Bicibox car park next to the Rodalies station, with 61 spaces for bicycles and scooters. The opening makes it easier for residents to leave their vehicle safely and continue their journey by train or metro, an increasingly common combination in daily travel.
The new space is connected to the Renfe station and the metro stop, making it a useful point for people travelling between El Prat, Barcelona and other metropolitan municipalities. The idea is simple: arrive by bike or scooter, park without fear of theft and continue by public transport.
The facility has been funded by the Área Metropolitana de Barcelona, with an investment of 157,553.87 euros under the Plan de Sostenibilidad Ambiental. With this opening, El Prat now exceeds 400 Bicibox spaces, the highest figure in the entire metropolitan area.
Demand explains part of the movement. The Cèntric and Les Moreres car parks are close to full, and in the first quarter of 2026 the service recorded more than 8,000 uses in the municipality. The number of subscribers also continues to grow and already exceeds 850.
Bicibox is gaining importance at a time when many users are looking for practical alternatives to the car. It has also become more useful since electric scooters have not been allowed on public transport, which makes it necessary to find safe places to leave them before entering stations or buses.
The El Prat car park is the first of the six high-capacity Bicibox facilities that the AMB plans to open this year. The next ones will come to L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, with four facilities, and Sant Cugat del Vallès, with one more. Together, they will add more than 200 new spaces.
The metropolitan network already has 240 modules and 12 high-capacity car parks spread across 32 municipalities. To use the service, users must register in advance and register their bicycle or scooter, a step intended to control access and strengthen security.
