El Prat records its best July ever with 5.87 million passengers
Barcelona-El Prat Airport has recorded the best July in its history. Its terminals handled 5,871,137 passengers, 6% more than in the same month of 2025, in the middle of the high season and with international traffic as the main driver of growth.
Most travellers used connections with other countries. International flights carried 4,531,980 passengers in July, 7.6% more than a year ago, while domestic journeys reached 1,330,168 users and grew much more moderately, by 0.6%.
The increase is also noticeable on the runways. During the month, 35,886 operations, including landings and take-offs, were carried out, 6.6% more than in July 2025. The airport’s daily activity is thus once again at peak levels during one of the months under greatest tourist pressure.
The cumulative balance confirms that this is not merely an isolated summer peak. Between January and July, 34,242,752 travellers passed through El Prat, 4.6% more than in the first seven months of last year. Of them, around 25.9 million used international flights.
Freight transport is also growing. The airport handled 20,435 tonnes of cargo in July, 8.1% more than a year ago, while since January it has accumulated more than 125,000 tonnes, an increase of 11.6%.
Barcelona remains the second airport with the most passengers in the Aena network, behind only Madrid-Barajas. El Prat’s growth also once again raises the pressure borne by an infrastructure that has spent years operating around or above the figures for which it was designed.
The new record arrives precisely while the debate continues over expanding the airport and the need to improve intercontinental connections. July’s figure offers a clear picture even before the end of summer: El Prat continues to gain travellers at great speed and increasingly depends on international traffic to sustain that growth.
